My final media product

For my final product I made several changes to my magazine one such change being that I introduced a new colour into it, primarily because I wanted my magazine to feel like an actual Punk magazine and so I took inspiration from one of the first punk bands the Sex pistols I added a pink and changed how several of my headings were set, often with them having a different coloured back ground to make them stand out and appear more attractive out to better resemble their album cover.

Media Evaluation Question 5: How did you attract/address your audience?

Media Evaluation Question 4: Who would be the audience for our media product?

My media product is a music magazine called 'Punk Craze' it's genre is Punk and Rock, my magazine will have a small audience as Rock and Punk music isn't as popular as it was the past. My magazine is aimed at those aged 16-25 as this age range are the ones most likely to be fans of new Punk and Rock music as it emerged in the 90's and the 2000's. This type of music is also very present on social networking sites such as Instagram and Facebook; these sites tend to be heavily populated teens and young adults compared to other age groups and this means they are the most likely ones to be fans making them a possible audience. My magazine is also priced cheaply at only £2.99 to attract those between the ages of 16 and 25 because the vast majority are students, part time or are unskilled workers (Groups E and D on the JICNAR scale) and due to this they won't have much disposable income, which makes this cheap price appealing to them. However my magazine also has a secondary audience in the age range of 40 to 50 as this group were teenagers when Punk and Rock music were popular, this means that they may still be fans of the genres and be willing to read my music magazine as it even includes older bands such as Black Sabbath.
My audience from both age ranges are likely to possess a car whether its cheap or expensive, meaning they'll have access to the stereo within it which will allow them to listen to Rock and Punk radio stations like Punk Fm and Punk Radio, which will keep them up to date with the newest bands and music and keep the audience interested in the latest Rock and Punk music.

The ethnic group for my magazines audience will be white people as the vast majority of artists and fans of Punk and Rock music are white whether they're young or old. Culture wise my target audience will be British or American as these two countries are where the music genres originated from and are thus more likely to already have fans of Punk and Rock music.

Contents page research

  • Within each of the example contents pages is more than one image with six of them featuring very clear and visible main image which takes up the majority of the page so it draws the readers eyes. However there is an exception to this in which the bottom left example has three equally sized pictures in a vertical line perhaps showing they're all of the same amount of importance. Also in the majority of the examples the main image is located in the top right of the page and takes up the majority of it
  • In the majority of the examples there is a small article beneath the main image which is related to the image itself; to one side of the text (usually the right)are several different headings with pages numbers and text beneath them showing what else the magazine contains.
  • All of the examples include the heading of 'contents' at the top in large font to show people clearly that this is the contents page, in all but one of the examples it features in the same font as the magazines masthead. however the one exception in the bottom right has contents in a font that isn't the same as the masthead and appears unique in its font.
  • All of the contents pages feature a colour scheme of three main colours all of with are one combination of red, black, white and yellow. All of the headings to indicate what else is contained within the magazine are either on a colourful background so they stand out or are in an outlandish font so they also stand out. Also on all of the contents pages are advertisements and pugs telling people that they can win things like tickets, posters etc.

My Article for my double page spread

The Death of Rock and Roll with Mozz

Mozz has come clean on his fears about the future of rock music “rock audiences are a very niche and marginalised group in today’s music industry” he continues saying that “people always say the sentence that the world needs rock stars again, but it doesn’t need rock stars in the sense of people who act like stereotypical rock stars it needs real personalities which are charismatic and interesting to large audiences” he stressed how “the world does have a few of these people but the industry is so saturated and there are so many people copying each other that it’s hard for theses personalities to emerge and get noticed”. He then compared rock to other genres “the reason hip hop and rap are so successful is because they’re not just music there’s much more behind them, there’s art and culture attached to the genre and although I don’t particularly listen to hip hop I can see that it’s a world built on the ideas of community, culture, art, fashion and money to name a few things and I’m quite envious of the position it’s in when compared to Rock because when Rock music gains these things it can be popular again”.

Mozz also addressed another problem within the genre that hasn’t received much attention in the past “another problem within Rock music is that the entire touring community is based off of old bands with most members being in their sixties and touring every year or so; although this doesn’t seem like a bad thing at first in a few years bands like KISS won’t be touring anymore because they’ll simply be too old and with them goes their audience which are the large scale community, so what happens after that? Well… it’ll either be the death of Rock and Roll or people will finally start paying attention and Rock will gain some recognition and perhaps a new audience”.

However he believes that there is still hope for the genre as social media has become a day to day part of many people’s lives, it may allow new rock bands and artists to become popular with a large audience much easier allowing Rock music to become widespread again and in his words “possibly have a rebirth of rock music” he said how his career is “very much predicated on social media" and how he’s hopeful other bands can become popular in the same way and keep Rock alive.

Photo planning

This is a small mind I made highlighting things i should be taking into account when photographing my main image; if I take all of theses things into account and make them fit my magazine genre I should get a good main image for my magazine.
